This buffalo chicken dip stuffed bread bowl is the ultimate game day appetizer. Creamy, spicy dip is baked inside a crusty sourdough loaf, creating an edible bowl that’s perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf (about 810 inches in diameter)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the bread bowl: Using a serrated knife, cut a circle about 2 inches from the edge of the top of the sourdough loaf. Remove the top piece and set it aside. Gently pull out the soft bread from the inside, leaving a 1-inch thick wall all around. Save the pulled-out bread for dipping or toasting later.
  3. Make the dip base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, buffalo hot sauce, and ranch dressing. Stir until smooth. If the cream cheese is still a bit firm, microwave it in 15-second intervals until easy to mix.
  4. Add the chicken and cheese: Fold in the shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, and mozzarella cheese. Mix until everything is evenly coated. The mixture should be thick but scoopable.
  5. Stuff the bread bowl: Spoon the dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl, pressing it down gently to fill all the gaps. Don’t overstuff—the dip should sit slightly below the rim.
  6. Brush the bread: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder. Brush the outside of the bread bowl and the top of the removed bread cap with the butter mixture.
  7. Bake: Place the stuffed bread bowl on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and the cheese is melted. If the bread starts to brown too quickly, tent it loosely with aluminum foil.
  8. Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with sliced green onions if using. Serve with the reserved bread pieces, tortilla chips, or celery sticks for dipping.

Notes

For extra crispy bread, brush the inside of the hollowed-out bread bowl with melted butter before adding the dip. Don’t overbake—the dip should be bubbly and the cheese melted, but the bread should still be easy to tear. Leftover dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
