A warm, autumnal twist on the classic margarita, featuring apple cider, fresh lime, and a crunchy cinnamon-sugar rim. This easy cocktail is perfect for fall gatherings or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) blanco or reposado tequila
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) fresh apple cider (not apple juice)
  • 1 ounce (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1 ounce (30 ml) orange liqueur (triple sec or Cointreau)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnishes: thin apple slice, cinnamon stick, star anise pod

Instructions

  1. On a small, shallow dish, combine 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix with a fork until evenly distributed.
  2. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a serving glass. Gently twist the glass into the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat the rim evenly. Set aside.
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with large ice cubes.
  4. Add 2 ounces tequila, 1 ounce fresh lime juice, 1 ounce orange liqueur, and 2 ounces apple cider to the shaker.
  5. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels frosty.
  6. Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice cubes.
  7. Strain the chilled margarita mixture into the glass.
  8. Garnish with a thin apple slice, cinnamon stick, or star anise pod if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a saltier rim, mix 1 tablespoon sugar with 1 tablespoon flaky sea salt and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. For a smoky version, use mezcal instead of tequila. To make a batch for a crowd, combine 2 cups tequila, 1 cup lime juice, 1 cup orange liqueur, and 2 cups apple cider in a pitcher; refrigerate and serve over ice.
