These soft small batch chocolate chip cookies are quick, forgiving, and deliver a perfect soft texture every time. Made with simple ingredients and no chilling required, they’re ideal for dinner parties, potlucks, or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/4 cups (156g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (135g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together on medium speed for 2-3 minutes, until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until fully combined, about 1 minute. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed just until the flour disappears. Do not overmix.
  6. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the chocolate chips into the dough until evenly distributed.
  7. Using a 1.5-tablespoon cookie scoop, scoop the dough into 8 equal portions. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 9-11 minutes. The cookies are done when the edges are lightly golden and the centers look slightly underdone and puffy.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

For taller cookies, chill the scooped dough for 15 minutes before baking. For dairy-free, use plant-based butter and dairy-free chocolate chips. For gluten-free, use a 1:1 gluten-free baking blend. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Freeze baked cookies for up to 3 months.
