A fun and delicious Halloween dinner featuring a moist turkey and sausage meatloaf wrapped in crescent dough bandages, topped with ketchup stripes and candy eyes. It looks like a decoration but tastes like a real meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground turkey (93% lean)
  • ½ lb (225 g) pork sausage (breakfast or Italian, casings removed)
  • ½ cup (60 g) breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned, panko works)
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) finely grated onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) ketchup (for meat mixture)
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
  • 1 can (8 oz / 226 g) refrigerated crescent dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) ketchup (for stripes)
  • 2 candy eyes (or black olive slices)
  • 1 large egg + 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, pork sausage, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons ketchup, salt, pepper, and oregano (if using). Mix gently with your hands until just combined; do not overmix.
  3. Transfer mixture to the prepared baking sheet and shape into a long oval log, about 8 inches long and 4 inches wide, 1½ inches tall in the center.
  4. Open the crescent dough can and separate into 8 triangles. Take 6 triangles and cut each lengthwise into 3 long strips (18 strips total). Reserve remaining 2 triangles for another use.
  5. Wrap the dough strips around the meatloaf at slight angles, overlapping slightly to mimic mummy bandages. Leave a 1-inch gap at one end for the face. Tuck ends under the loaf.
  6. Brush a thin layer of ketchup over the exposed meatloaf face area, then paint random ketchup stripes across the dough bandages.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk egg with 1 tablespoon water. Brush egg wash over the dough strips (avoiding ketchup stripes).
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes. At 25 minutes, if dough is browning too quickly, tent loosely with foil. Internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  9. Remove from oven and let rest 5 minutes. Press candy eyes gently into the dough at the face end.
  10. Let rest another 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

Do not overmix the meat mixture. Grate the onion instead of dicing for better moisture distribution. Watch the dough as it browns quickly; tent with foil if needed. Use a thermometer to ensure the meat reaches 165°F (74°C). Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Add candy eyes after baking to prevent melting.
