This spooky, sweet-tart punch uses simple, affordable ingredients like frozen juice concentrate and soda to create a kid-friendly Halloween party hit. The secret ‘blood’ swirl made from berry gelatin adds a dramatic visual effect that delights kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12-ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
  • 1 (12-ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1 liter lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or 7-Up), chilled
  • 1 liter ginger ale, chilled
  • 1 (3-ounce) package berry-flavored gelatin (like Jell-O), any red or dark berry flavor
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries or dark sweet cherries (optional, for garnish)
  • Ice ring or large ice cubes (optional, for serving)
  • Plastic vampire teeth or gummy worms (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ‘Vampire Blood’ Swirl: In a small bowl, combine the berry-flavored gelatin with 1/2 cup of boiling water. Whisk vigorously for about 2 minutes until the gelatin is completely dissolved and the mixture is clear. Then, add 1/2 cup of cold water and stir. Set aside to cool to room temperature.
  2. Mix the Punch Base: In a large pitcher, combine the thawed orange juice concentrate, thawed lemonade concentrate, and 4 cups of cold water. Stir until well blended. This can be made a day ahead and refrigerated.
  3. Assemble the Punch: Just before serving, pour the juice base into a large punch bowl. Gently pour in the chilled lemon-lime soda and ginger ale. Stir very slowly to combine without losing carbonation.
  4. Add the Ice: Carefully place an ice ring or large ice cubes into the punch to chill without diluting too quickly.
  5. Create the Spooky Swirl: Slowly drizzle the cooled gelatin mixture into the punch bowl. Do not stir! Let it sink and swirl on its own to create creepy tendrils.
  6. Add the Garnishes: Scatter frozen raspberries or cherries on top. If using, add gummy worms or plastic teeth right before serving.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Ladle the punch into cups, making sure to get a little bit of the ‘blood’ swirl and a few berries into each serving.

Notes

The gelatin swirl will fully mix into the punch after about 30-45 minutes, turning the whole thing a uniform pinkish-red. For the full visual effect, serve within the first half hour. To make an ice ring, fill a bundt pan with water and a few raspberries or orange slices and freeze overnight. For a less sweet version, swap the lemon-lime soda and ginger ale for plain sparkling water. For an adult version, add 1 to 1.5 cups of vodka or silver rum.
